This week we’ve had some fantastic interaction with our new friends in Canada. Early in the week, we were surprised to find that the students from ‘Grade 6 is Awesome’ had taken on our 100 word challenge. They did a great job and we enjoyed reading the stories from each student. The students from this class in Canada all have their own blogs, so we set out to make sure that we responded with a comment for each student.

This was a great opportunity for us to learn about writing for different audiences and purposes. When we give feedback to each other we want to offer critical and useful advise to help improve our writing. In our class we have built relationships to be able to give this advice without anyone being offended. We know that our team mates are trying to help us to improve. When we are commenting and responding to new people, we talked about how it’s important to build new relationships. This meant that our comments focussed more on introductions and general comments rather than jumping right in to specific feedback. This is a tricky balance to find. As we work with more schools, we know that our students will learn to think more about their audience and purpose for writing without as much guidance from teachers.

We look forward to continuing to work with our new friends in Canada and connecting and learning with more classes around the world.
