Exploring current events can be tricky in the classroom. We want our students to be thinking critically about the world around them but ‘adult’ news clips are not always appropriate. ‘Behind the News’ is a long running news show designed to unpack current events for students.

Last year, the BTN team introduced a new opportunity called ‘Ask a Reporter’. This is an opportunity for students to submit their questions about a focus story each week, to be answered by a reporter from the show. This happens live through a web broadcast each Friday.

This has been a great opportunity for us to work our questioning skills. Coming up with deeper questions, those that can’t easily be ‘Googled’, is something that we will continue to work on throughout this year.
